It seems that PayPal has quietly increased their fees in order to increase their revenue flow. The added fee hikes took place in June, but were not immediately known until after PayPal starting charging for the increase. But according to this article there is more to this besides higher fees.

Over at ars technica they state the following information:

What PayPal failed to do was inform users of the fact thatany transfer having to do with goods or services will be charged the 3¢ + 2.9 percent fee no matter who or where it’s coming from. This includes payments sent from personal accounts as well as
payments made after someone has sent you a request for payment (even if that request has nothing to do with goods or services).

For example, a personal account sending another personal account money for a one-time payment for, say, mowing your lawn was not previously charged any fees on either side, but is now charged the usual transaction fee (the sender gets to decide who pays). The only way to avoid this is by selecting “gift” when making the transfer—something you can’t do if you’re following through on a purchase or invoice from someone. And, if you fall into this category (which many people do), it’s likely that you had no idea about the changes until just now.

Well, it appears as if the lack of a “huge formal communication” has now begun to anger users, as it comes off as a shady way to hide the addition of fees to mass numbers of transactions. Sure, users would have been irritated either way, but doesn’t PayPal know that the way to handle bad PR is to be the first one to control the message? People value openness and transparency—especially when bad news is involved. Now, those controlling the message are other, ticked off users, and that won’t be an easy one to clean up after.

Do you get your money’s worth when you shop? If you’re not pleased with the way your dollar stretches, you’re not alone. Perhaps all you need are some shopping guidelines, a little practice, and above all, a healthy dose of skepticism. I’d like to discuss some practices I’ve employed over the years that result in substantial savings.

1. Step 1

   Shop where an item is cheap. A lot of money can be saved if you know where to shop. Good-sized eggplants sell atVon’s Market for $2.39 each. A similar one is available at Farm to Market, just 300 yards away, for 99¢. It’s a matter of familiarizing yourself with what’s available and then shop accordingly.

2. Step 2

   Relegate brand names to their proper place. Whether your choice of lipstick is the $25 Chanel selection from Macy's, the $6.75 Max Factor brand from Walgreen Drug or the $1.39 Wet 'n Wild tube from Target, be aware that the essential ingredients are the same.    When comparing prices, evaluate products at unit prices. The 8-ounce container of a popular detergent sells for $2.72. The “Super Economy Size” boasts a full quart for only $12.80. Which is the better buy? The deciding factor is the per-ounce price. Divide the price of the smaller container, $2.75, by its volume, 8 ounces. The result: 34¢ per ounce. Then divide the price of the larger container, $12.80, by its volume (there are 32 ounces in a quart), to get 40¢ per ounce. Surprise! The “Super Economy Size” is really not so economic.

5. Step 5

   Don’t be taken in by celebrity nonsense. You’re familiar with the commercials. How can I make money with MySpace? Or rather, should you even bother with developing MySpace as another source of online income? As a social network that sees very heavy daily visitor traffic from millions of users, MySpace has been the target of aspiring entrepreneurs, internet marketers and webmasters.

As everyone knows, traffic of all sorts can be transformed into profit through various monetization methods. MySpace is no exception.

10 Ways to Make Money from MySpace

I’ve dug around the web and haven’t really found any useful guide to making money with MySpace and so I’ve decided to come up with my own list of methods you can use to earn some extra money from MySpace.

Most of the items on this list came from several webmaster friends who earned a consistent income through the funneling of MySpace traffic to highly relevant websites with various monetization options.

Depending on your personal ethics, some of the methods on the list may not be methods that you will want to pursue. That’s perfectly fine. My aim was just to record down a list of the ways that one can possibly use to make money through MySpace.

Here is the list in full:

1. Bulletin-based Advertising. Mastering this is the first and most fundamental step towards making money with MySpace. Add as many friends as possible (either manually or through automated software) and learn to send out bulletins or comments which drive traffic towards your money-making sites.

   Depends on how targeted or aggressive your broadcasting, these methods can be regarded by MySpace and other users as spam.

2. Use Affiliate programs. Direct Myspace traffic to your website which contains your affiliate links or product feeds. I suggest going for Cost Per Action programs which only require the visitor to submit his or her email address or sign up for a free account with any website.

   Dating network, free X360 offers or ringtones would generally do well although some affiliate networks may not be too pleased if you primarily get all your affiliate traffic from MySpace alone. Mixing MySpace into your overall affiliate marketing strategy will be more balanced and useful.

3. Start a MySpace Resource site. Your aim is to make money through Adsense and other advertising by driving MySpace traffic to your site.

   The main attraction of your site will be the availability of free MySpace resources such as templates, codes, graphics and survey generators etc. Note however, that many webmasters have reported poor click values for MySpace resource sites because of the low paying ads.

4. Create dozens of accounts everyday and sell them to webmasters which are looking to promote their website on MySpace. There is actually demand for multiple Myspace accounts in webmaster and affiliate marketing forums.
5. Offer Advertising Space for webmasters and businesses. This will only work if you have a large number of friends on your MySpace accounts. You can probably charge webmasters a fee for putting up a link to their website or business.

   This is usually done through bulletin-style notices that go out to multiple members or mass commenting. Think of it as something similar to an email list.

6. Partner with independent musicians and bands to reach out to their fan base. This will allow you to get some sales for your products if they are highly relevant. I suppose that T-shirts and fashion accessories will do well when they receive personal recommendations from musicians.
7. Create and Sell Myspace scripts or templates. You can either set up your own website to sell these templates or sell them to MySpace Resource websites, who are always looking for new material. Keeping the price competitive is an important factor here.
8. Build a MySpace website around your business. For example, if you are selling shoes, you could build a MySpace page which highlights a specific section of your website (E.G. sports sneakers, vintage shoes) which would appeal to the MySpace market. This will usually get some visitors to your website and may lead to actual sales.
9. Start a Proxy site. Proxies are websites, which allow users to surf websites which may be banned in a specific locality. They are usually monetized by Adsense or other types of contextual based advertising.

   Proxies are popular with the MySpace crowd because it allows them to bypass web filters that are set up by the schools or businesses to block Myspace websites. There are a lot of proxies out there and competition for MySpace and other internet users is quite strong.

   I suggest getting into the Proxy business only if you really know how to promote your proxy effectively on both MySpace and the search engines.

10. Use MySpace Groups for targeted marketing. Visit the category relevant to your business and carefully drop targeted links to your website, which should contain useful content alongside affiliate programs/Adsense.

Like any other type of market, picking a highly relevant affiliate program or website and promoting it through MySpace is absolutely vital for monetary success.

The MySpace market is made up of mostly teenagers, so choosing products or websites which appeal to their interests would be very useful indeed.

Option #1: Using TwitterCounter WordPress Plugin

This is a plugin developed by Ajax Souza. You can download the plugin from his own website. Just activate the plugin and add it to your widget sidebar and it’ll show the count automatically.

Steps to use the plugin:

1. Download TwitterCounter WordPress plugin.
2. Extract the contents of twittercounter.zip to /wp-content/plugins/ folder. You should get a folder called twittercounter.
3. Upload the twittercounter folder to your FTP folder /wp-content/plugins/.
4. Activate the plugin in plugin admin screen.
5. Goto Options > TwitterCounter to configure. If you are upgrading from an earlier version, it is recommended that you click ‘Default Options’ so as to clean up any old options.
6. Add to your theme file where you want to display the counter. Alternatively, if you can use the sidebar widget, if your theme has widget support.

Option #2: Add Twitter Follower Count Manually

This is an advanced option which you have the total control on it. You can show the count any place you like.

1. Go to TwitterCounter website.
2. Type your Twitter username in the box next to “Generate your Graph. Who are you on Twitter: @” and click “Show”.
3. Then click “Get more followers: Add TwitterCounter to your site, blog or social network.” at the top of next page.
4. In next page, you will see four counters in different styles. The JavaScript code is appeared below each counter.
5. Pick one of the counter style that you like and copy the JavaScript code.
6. Now go to your Widget admin page in your WordPress.
7. Add a new “Text” widget to your sidebar. If you like, you can use existing “Text” widget in your sidebar and append the code to it.
8. Click “Edit” link on your “Text” widget and paste the code into the empty textbox.
9. Click “Done” and “Save” button to show your TwitterCounter.
10. If you’d like to show the count in your blog post, you can paste the code when you add/edit a post in the HTML mode.

47. Learn quickly to use the URL shortening tools like TinyURL and all the variants. It helps tidy up your tweets.
48. If someone says you’re using Twitter wrong, forget it. It’s an opt out society. They can unfollow if they don’t like how you use it.

As many bloggers and web-savy surfers know, Twitter.com has become a HUGE resource for Micro-blogging and consequently driving quality traffic to their websites. The more followers you have, the more impact and traffic you potentially drive to your website with each and every Tweet!

New bloggers find themselves in a catch-22 conundrum! Trying to generate readers to their website, and get the Twitter population to follow you to generate that traffic! I have figured out a way to give you a boost in Twitter Followers! A very healthy boost in one full day!

As you may know, many people on twitter are very happy to follow you if you follow them in return. The problem is finding those “Tit-for-Tat” contacts that are willing to do this!

Over the last 24 hours, I have gone through lists of other high-profile blogging / internet contacts on Twitter, following and pruning my contact list until I have a high percentage of the “Tit-for-Tat” people that will follow you if you follow them! To be courteous, of course I continue to follow all of the people that have followed me (and then some)!

When Twitter came on the scene 2006 I was an early adopter. Chatting IRC style with the addition of subscribers and an archive was most compelling to me. I was quick to abandon it too. Back then you may as well have shouted, "Hello!," into a desert canyon, but without the comforting echo. Twitter reached a tipping-point (and I began using it again) during the 2007 SXSW conference when attendees used the tool to chat during sessions and figure-out which bar to convene in. At the same time conference bloggers lit the Internet with stories about just how revolutionary Twitter was.

Today the question is,

"How do I use Twitter to get rich for marketing?"

Personalities like @GuyKawasaki, @SethGodin and @JasonCalacanis all use Twitter so there must be gold in them there hills. Right?

Right size your expectations.

Twitter is a lousy audience building tool when you have to start from scratch.

Guy Kawasaki, Seth Godin and Jason Calacanis did not create new audiences on Twitter. They brought their audiences with them. They told blog readers and subscribers, "Follow me on Twitter to receive more fresh content and enjoy some personal time with me."

So how do Guy, Seth and Jason use Twitter to grow the readership their blogs and web sites? They exploit the fact that no one enjoys being privy to only one side of a conversation.

• On Twitter everyone has their own followers
  • When you send a message to Guy Kawasaki your followers see what you write
  • When Guy writes to you people will not see what Guy writes unless they follow Guy too or visit his profile
• When your followers see you conversing with Guy Kawasaki
  • Many will want to know what Guy wrote to you
  • They will visit Guy’s Twitter page
  • Some will follow Guy
• New followers will get Guy’s messages, both personal and marketing

The larger the audience you bring with you to Twitter in the beginning the more useful Twitter will be as a marketing tool. If you have only a small audience Twitter will prove difficult use.

You can build an audience from scratch on Twitter.

It takes time to make new friends. As you become more involved and recognized people will follow your account. It can be a slow process, especially at the outset.

• Create an account with your real name (Unless your nickname is widely recognized).
• Use a Twitter search tool
  • Find discussions that interest you
  • Make sure you have a potential audience on Twitter
• Visit the Twitter pages of @names you see frequently in messages.
• Read their recent posts
• Evaluate them
• Follow them
• Visit their web sites and blogs
• Participate in the conversation.
  • Be online during peak posting periods
  • Use people’s @names in your posts
  • Seriously, engage people and use their @names in your messages. This is the most important secret of all.
• Write compelling content
  • Write only when you have something worthwhile to contribute
  • Don’t be a troll or somebody who fans the flames of argument
  • Avoid useless messages like, "Me too."
  • Use Tiny URLs (Firefox addon)

Here is one last hint.

Don’t follow too many people right away.

If you visit somebody’s Twitter profile and see that they follow 250 people but only 25 follow back, chances are good you will not follow either. The ratio is unnatural, too far apart. Keep this in mind for your own account when you begin following users. Start with under 50 then grow gradually. You’ll pick-up speed soon enough.

Make Money From Your Twitter Account “What? What did he just say?” Ya, that’s right I said you can make money from your twitter account by using a new twitter ad service called twittad. With twittad you set a price for how much you are willing to sell ad space each month (on your twitter profile), then advertisers browse through and select the profiles that they want to advertise on. If you receive an offer you cam either accept or reject it. Now before you get all excited about twittad I should mention that is probably one of the most inefficient marketplaces out there. Sure it would be great if people could actually make decent revenue but thanks to the crackheads out there that sell ad space on their profile for peanuts, that is not possible. There are people on twitad with 1000+ followers who are willing to sell their ad space for $15/month, now I ask you, where is the logic in this? There is absolutely no structure or guideline on how to price your ads. The same guy that sold his 1000+ follower twitter profile for $15/month was matched by someone else with 144 followers who is selling his ad space for $14/month! I set up a test account at a price of $600/month. I have almost 600 twitter followers and a dollar per person per month seemed like a fairly reasonable price to me. But, how the hell are you supposed to make anything of substance when there are schmucks out there selling their ad space for less than the cost of a sandwich at quiznos!? It’s a great idea and it does have a lot of potential but twittad needs to give people the opportunity to make something decent, after the 5% commission that twittad takes you are left with barely enough money to go a pixie stick at your local grocery store!
